Lesson of the Goldfish
(my denoument)

There in its simplicity
 the goldfish leans against
 the golden disk.of the sun.
one could suppose.

Round and full,
the goldfish dives downward

toward an unknown destiny.

I watch it melt.
Yielding to the iron post.
warmed....it dissolves.

Oh, that I could be as graceful
with my denouments.

Yielding to the larger flow
of time and warmth

and the inevitability of change.

knowing that I can not command
things to be a certain way
and stay the same
knowing that unseen forces
shape me.

and sometimes I melt too.

  1. I love this poem! What an excellent lesson to draw from your winter ice art experiments.
